Donald Trump’s Golf War

I’m angry.  Angry after watching the BBC 2 Scotland’s “Donald Trump’s Golf War”.  Angrier than I thought I would be.  Because I knew about the story, I’d read about how Donald Trump had gone about his business to bully his way past council objections and blocks; because I knew about the Compulsory Purchase Order threats, I thought I knew what I was going to watch.

But I was wrong.  Until I watched the program I had no real idea of the trouble and strife hanging over Michael Forbe and the Milnes.  The program’s ending with David and Moira on the beach in tears had me choking up too.  Forcibly evicting someone from their home in the name of a private golf club is just despicable.  No wonder the Tripping Up Trump campaign have called it the Trumpland Clearances.

This is aside from the fact that an area of outstanding natural beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest that is being destroyed.  Not for a golf club really.  For a hotel and a housing estate.

Trump has nothing in his life except money.  The documentary showed him displaying objects he had bought.  They were all trophies or memorabilia of the achivements of others.  He cannot understand why the residents don’t want his money to move out.

Watch the program on the BBC iPlayer when it is available.

But also follow this series of videos on Vimeo by Jon Pullman.

  1. firstly, im glad i found your site. ive not had a proper look yet, but so far im liking your scotland sunday series. Where are you based if i may ask?

I do a similar blog, except my gang of commenters often turn it into a sex and swearing fest, which is ok by me.

On the Trump issue, i am still undecided. Forbes is something of a c**t, but i do feel sorry for the Milnes. I want to see the course built without anyone being forced off their land.

    regards

Glad you like the Scotland Sunday series.

The thing is the course could easily be built without throwing anyone off their land
