Links In Darkness: Wednesday 27th July – Monday 1st August

These are the selection of posts I found interesting between Wednesday and Monday:

Going Live! Wickerman Festival 2011

I’m back, did you miss me? I left you with some links whilst I sloped off on holiday, taking in Ireland, Loch Ness and this last weekend, The Wickerman Festival, which was most excellent.

I’ll post a full review at a later date, and for now I’ll leave you with the traditional burning of the Wicker Man – this year with scary horns (watch out for what the horns contain!)

Going Live! Echo & the Wickermen

Regular feature in irregular return shock. Too much politics makes a dull blog so I return to some music. Some of this years Wickerman Festival line up as been announced and whilst it is less than brilliant so far, we don’t go for the music. However, I am really looking forward to see Echo & the Bunnymen. For the youngsters, here is probably their most famous song :-

Going Live! Celtic Connections

Last Friday, I went to Celtronika at the Old Fruitmarket, part of Celtic Connections 2011. It was a great, if mixed night, only let down by the length of the change overs which meant it was a very long evening, and it felt like none of the bands ever got enough time to get going.

The exception to that was Hidden Orchestra, who gave a haunting performance of “Night Walks“. The show was stolen by the similarly entitled, Niteworks, perhaps the only act to accurately fused Celtic music with electronics – pipes and keyboards. They certainly got the crowd on their feet dancing; yet it was over far too soon.

To get a flavour of the more “traditional” Celtic Connections event, here are Treacherous Orchestra at the ABC.
